Bulletin 2019-06: Clarifying Waste Disposal in Mixed-use Buildings

The Office of Cannabis (“OOC”) issues this bulletin to clarify garbage receptacle requirements for commercial cannabis operators located in mixed-use buildings – a type of building that contains both residential and commercial units.

Pursuant to Section 1609(b)(11)(F) of the San Francisco Police Code Cannabis Businesses must contemplate a waste disposal plan. Separate and apart from Cannabis Waste requirements1, operators must obtain their own waste receptacles, distinct from residents’ waste receptacles in a mixed-use building.  

Information about waste receptacles can be found on both the Recology and San Francisco Department of the Environment websites.
